No.5 Eau Première arrives at the same address as the original, but by a different route. The aldehydic opening is present — unmistakable, modern since 1921 — but here it is lifted, given more air. Neroli and bergamot move beside it, freshening rather than amplifying, turning something monumental into something approachable without diminishing it.
The heart is rose and jasmine as Chanel has always understood them: not realistic, but idealized, abstracted into the idea of a flower rather than any specific bloom. Ylang-ylang and iris add depth and powder. The base — sandalwood, vetiver, the quietest suggestion of vanilla — settles the composition into its long, unhurried close.
